Moringa Powder: 5 Benefits for a Healthier Body

Moringa is considered by many to be a superfood (similar to Acai berry and Spirulina). Derived from the leaves and seed pods of the Moringa oleifera tree, Moringa powder is said to be full of antioxidants, helping reduce inflammation, stabilise blood sugar and boost heart health.

I’m not a doctor, nor am I a scientist, but I did conduct some research into this increasingly popular green powder and these are five science-backed health benefits I found associated with the consumption of Moringa powder.

It’s packed full of nutrients

One cup of Moringa powder is a good source of iron, calcium, vitamins A, E, C, and B6, as well as riboflavin, potassium and magnesium. These vitamins and minerals are scientifically proven to not only improve your vision, immunity and bone health, but also helps improve the quality of your skin. This concentration of nutrients also makes Moringa powder a great natural supplement in any nutritious diet as it’s also an excellent source of plant-based protein (3 grams of protein per tablespoon), which assists your body to repair muscles and regulate your mood. Add it to your morning tea or smoothies for a natural boost.

Helps with the symptoms of Diabetes

Morgina powder has been shown to be helpful in reducing lipid and glucose levels in scientific studies. Initial studies have shown that taking 1.5 teaspoons of Moringa powder everyday for three months reduced fasting blood sugar levels by an average 13.4% in a study of 30 women and that adding 50 grams of Moringa leaves to a meal reduced the rise in blood sugar of diabetics by 21%. Studies are far from conclusive though, and further research is definitely required before making a definitive link between the benefits of using Moringa powder in the treatment of diabetes.

High levels of antioxidants

Free radicals (created by a variety of things including pollution, too much sun exposure and fried foods) are known to damage your cells causing premature ageing. One way to reverse this is to consume lots of antioxidants. There are a number of powerful antioxidants found in Moringa (like flavonoids, polyphenols and ascorbic acid) that have been scientifically shown to prevent premature ageing.

Beneficial to your organs

Not only does Moringa significantly lower inflammation in cells by suppressing inflammatory enzymes and proteins in the body, but its high levels of vitamins C and E have also been linked to reduce oxidative stress. It also acts to protect organ tissue of the liver, kidneys, heart, testes and lungs (thanks it’s the powerful antioxidants found in Moringa powder).

It can boost your sex life

In animal studies, Moringa powder has been shown to not only beneficially reduce oxidative stress, but also natural enhance testosterone levels. One study showed that Moringa extract enhanced sexual performance in stressed its by suppressing cortisol and increasing testosterone in the subjects. Not a bad way to relieve stress, if you ask me.
