I’m a firm believer of constant self-development. Every day I make sure I engage in at least one activity that improves me in some way or other (whether it is reading a book, meditation, exercise, or engaging with people and learning about them). I find it helps me understand myself better and makes me more compassionate and understanding to others.
I also do this in my intimate relationships. I heard something at church one day that has always stuck with me: when you’re blessed, be a blessing. I apply this in every aspect of my life, especially my intimate relationships. How do you create and maintain a healthy romantic relationship? My list is below. I know it sounds cliched, but trust me, I know they seem like common sense, but they not always easy to practice.
- Honest and open communication
- Respect and patience
- Compromise
- Trust and support
- Allowing your partner to have privacy
- Unconditional love
What are some of the things on your list and has anything ever happened in a past relationship to make you realize the importance of a particular quality?
