Review: The Rowdy Tiger

Stepping into The Rowdy Tiger, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Of course, I’d researched and read reviews about the place, but every restaurant goer knows each day is not like the last, so I was keen to find out what my own personal experience was going to be.

Finding the restaurant/bar wasn’t that difficult. Apart from the fact that I ubered there, The Rowdy Tiger is located in the Renaissance Atlanta Midtown Hotel, one of Atlanta’s popular 4-star hotels, so it’s pretty easy to locate. Close to attractions like the Georgia Aquarium, Piedmont Park, the Fox Theatre, and Georgia Tech (among others…), I figured it would be a nice first stop before I starting on my Sunday errands, which is the reason I picked it for my first review.

Upon entering the establishment, I found myself standing for a while by an empty hosts’ stand, twiddling my thumbs and actively trying not to look awkward, but a few minutes of that and random ingenuity got me walking in and asking one of the two staff on duty that day what the protocol was to receive service. The server was amazingly friendly if, albeit, busy, and basically explained I could essentially sit anywhere I liked. So I took her suggestion and perched myself on a bar stool at a quiet corner of the bar where I knew I’d be able to open my laptop and silently prepare for the work week ahead.

Service stayed pretty much consistent to what I initially experienced: friendly, but sporadic. However, the food. I’m a picky eater (quality over quantity) and I was pleasantly surprised how fresh and tasty, not only my meal was, but also the smoothie I ordered to go with my brunch.

Okay, let me not get ahead of myself.. I have to admit that the wait to receive service was quite long, but I chalked that up to there being only two visible servers on the floor. The gentleman that took my order was also pretty friendly and he took my order for The Crafted Plate (a familiar deliciousness of two eggs – any style – with breakfast potatoes, a choice of smoked bacon, pork or chicken apple link sausages and toast) and mixed berry smoothie, which is essentially a blend of seasonal berries, almond milk, yoghurt and honey. The Veggie White Omelette with heirloom tomatoes, spinach, peppers, onions, broccoli and breakfast potatoes also looked incredibly appetizing – something I plan to try on my next visit.

The smoothie arrived first, but I waited another five minutes for my food to arrive before tasting it – and it was absolutely worth the wait. The smoothy was excellent and made to order. To be quite honest, I’d happily venture to The Rowdy Tiger for just that smoothie. It was sweet but tart, a little thick but thoroughly refreshing. It tasted like someone had carefully gone foraging in the brambles behind their house, plucked the most delicious ripe berries bursting with that dark berry goodness and blended them all up in the right proportions just for me. It was that good.

The Crafted Plate was good too. The eggs were done exactly how I requested them, which almost never happens as it would appear chefs all around the world and I have two very different ideas on what constitutes hard scrambled eggs, but I am pleased to convey that the chef at The Rowdy Tiger nailed it.

Together as a whole, my brunch meal at The Rowdy Tiger was pretty decent. It’s definitely a place I’d recommend for people looking for solo Sunday Funday opportunities, or just looking for a Sunday brunch location that’ll deliver on the taste and provide a quiet enough atmosphere to work. It’s definitely been added to my list of Sunday Funday Brunch locations.
