It’s Always The Little Things…

What are 5 everyday things that bring you happiness?

I consider myself a pretty lucky person. Don’t get me wrong, Life is challenging for me too. I still have things I wish I was better at and I still struggle accepting myself unconditionally sometimes, but I will say this, no matter what I’m going through, I always seem to naturally gravitate to the silver lining in any given situation. It’s taken me some years, but I finally recognize it as the gift that it is.

Why am I thinking about this? Well, someone asked me the other day how I stay so positive, and I was taken aback because, one, no one had ever asked me that before and, two, I didn’t have an answer then. I do have one now.

I grew up in various locations and the one thing that helped me build a sense of security around my young and developing identity was journaling (read an article about how to start journaling here).

Now I know it’s quite the commitment to undertake as a hobby as it requires you to be dedicated to documenting your life and emotions consistently, but I think that, by using my journal to document the things I was grateful for daily, my subconscious was trained to look for those events, encounters and situations daily that provided me with that sense of gratitude.

A self-fulfilling cycle almost…

Today, I thought I’d share the 5 things I do everyday that bring me happiness:

1. My morning routine

My morning routine is pretty simple. I wake up and immediately start meditating for 10-30 mins… just being grateful to have woken up and to have an opportunity to have an amazing day.

I read for another 30 mins to an hour, while making and enjoying a cup of Hazelnut coffee.

Then I go through my diary to see what has been planned for the day and shower – and once I’m dressed, the day begins.

2. I always have fresh flowers at home.

I love nature and I love Life. I buy flowers each week to place in my home and bedroom because it makes me feel loved and special. I haven’t over-thought the reason why fresh flowers make me feel this way. I just know that they do and I’m content with that.

3. Getting ready and being at work.

I love my job. I work as a hostess (as well as a freelance writer) at a high-end culinary establishment and I love the fact that I get to dress up to go to work. I love being at work too. Anyone that knows me, knows I’m obsessed with food and learning everything about the culinary world. I feel privileged to have this opportunity, so in my weird way, being a hostess makes me really very happy.

4. Having a great family and support system

I love people. I really enjoy the process of meeting them, getting to know and understand how their backgrounds shape their point of view on various subjects. It’s a learning experience for me, where I subject my own values, ethics and point of views to test my own conviction in what I believe and what I hold true.

It has been a great way for me to evolve and mature and I try as much as possible to engage everyone I meet with an open and pure heart to facilitate this process.

I swear, each day is filled with so many incredible (and sometimes, downright unbelievable!) stories – it makes Life that much more fun for me.

5. Writing

Writing has always been a therapeutic activity for me, a way to understand and communicate the various imaginings of my very vivid imagination. As a teenager, I wrote a steamy romance novel series, where I would distribute a new chapter or two amongst my classmates each week. That was lots of fun LOL

I’m currently writing a collection of erotic short stories that I plan to publish at the end of September (2023). It’s a project I’m very excited about and I will definitely share more details closer to the time.

But yeah, these are the 5 things in my daily life that bring me joy and happiness. Feel free to share your own personalised list in the comments section below.
