Stepping out of the old and into the new

2024 isn’t over yet, but what a year it has been. Just two months left in the year and I’m excited about taking stock of the year and beginning preparations for 2025.

What brought on this excitement? Meeting (and making) a new friend yesterday. It was as random as it was spontaneous (on my part at least lol) and left us both a little surprised by the Divine timing of it all. Let me tell you how Life surprised me yesterday.

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I’m currently homeless and after waking up yesterday (and saying a little prayer), I asked all that was good in creation for a miracle – and boy did it provide.

The day started with a donation of $500 at 9 am. Yes. Imagine my surprise (and gratitude). For me, at the time, it meant the promise of a warm and comfortable bed, hot showers and decent meals – at least for a few days. Long story short, after booking and paying via a third party website, the hotel refused to honor the room because I just didn’t have enough for the additional $100 deposit. So that was $360 down the drain.

To say I was livid was an understatement. So much so that all I could do was walk to the local park and transmute the strong anger I was generating. As someone that works with energy, I am an expert at this and one of the park’s security with the most beautiful dreadlocks happened to walk by shortly after I settled myself by my favorite water feature.

What made me shout to get his attention to compliment him on his locks, I’ll never know. What made him even turn around (he later confessed to being an introvert) and walk back and take a seat next to me, he claims he’ll never know either.

Let me interject that this isn’t a cute-meet, nor is it the beginnings of a love story. What it could be is this: the beginnings of a deep and lasting friendship (yes, I believe men and woman can just be friends, but it requires them both to be healed versions of themselves).

After the experience that led me to the park, having someone express genuine kindness, was nice. The fact that we also geeked out on so many random subjects and similar interests – was also nice. So nice that I’m now wondering whether what happened with the hotel happened to allow our paths to cross. It’s funny how these things happen; how out of something tragic and murky, something beautiful can emerge.

So today all I feel is contentment. Yes, I had planned to book that hotel to shower, catch up on REM sleep and work (on TikTok live and schedule articles on Medium for the next week), but obviously the universe had something else planned for me. Something planned for me that in many ways refreshed my soul (while I was preoccupied with refreshing my body) – and now, looking back and reflecting on the entire day, it was exactly what I needed.

Well, I did ask for a miracle.

Seeing miracles…
