Since moving back home, I’ve been so excited to explore the cuisine being cooked in this beautiful country. I’ve had Mexican food before, but I’m not going to lie, it hasn’t tasted like the Mexican food I’ve been eating since I came back. I guess it’s a little bit like old saying: Chinese food tastes different in China – and even though this isn’t Mexico, its a tad bit closer than I’ve been in a long time and I’m loving the flavors of the Mexican food I’m finding here.
I’m currently exploring the surrounding areas of the metro Atlanta area and I randomly came across a spot, hidden within the confines of an Exxon gas station, opposite the United States Penetentionary in Atlanta. Yes, I know… it was the first time I’ve ever set my gaze on any jail/ prison and I was surprised by the buiding’s impressive architecture, but the highlight of my time at that part of South Atlanta was the new Mexican food joint where the steak tacos are to die for and the Camarones Coras (spicy fried shrimp) are something to write home about.
Personally, the spicy fried shrimp was my favorite. I like my food spicy and they didn’t disappoint, but it wasn’t spicy for the sake of lingering heat alone, there were layers of flavors that when combined with the sprize of the associated lime wedge, elevated the dish to the point that I found myself soaking the fried tortilla with it and scooping up the fried onions, dried chillies and sauce alone. It was simply phenomenal.
